It will look like this.

The Wire may look more compact. If that is the case click on "More" in the bottom left corner. Notice the active box checked in 2 places and the election date is greyed out. You will need to uncheck both active boxes. First uncheck the top one then the bottom one.

You will get a message about this causing the wire to stop capturing data, but you will need to click Yes. This will allow the date to be edited. Make sure you put the date in this format mm/dd/yy. Then check the active boxes again, top then bottom.

Next you will need to find the News Object Manager. Inside this is a window called Election Processing. If this is the first test of an election then you will need to check the "build races from wire data" checkbox. After the first test leave it unchecked.

It turned out to be the Telnet was disabled on the Hyper-X. There is a way to see if this is correct. Look down int he bottom right corner of Lyris and on the staus bar it should say "II T" and if you do not see that then it is not enabled.

To fix this go to the Lyric program and go to Config > Intelligent Interface.

Then check the box Enable Telnet and click okay.

Basically it says In Outlook go to the Folder view. Find the Contacts folder and add a new sub-folder. Then go to Tools > Address Book... On this window go to Tools > Options... and change the Keep personal addresses in: box to this new folder you have created. Then click OK. Change the Show Names from the: box to Global Address List and highlight all of the entries. Then go to File > Add to Contacts. Go back to Tools > Options... and change the Keep personal addresses in: box back to Contacts. Then click OK and close the other box. This gives you the Global Address List in your Outlook.

Now you need to export it. Go to File > Import and Export... and choose Export to a file. Click Next. Choose Microsoft Excel and click Next. Then choose you newly created folder of the Global Address List and click Next. Pick a file name and click Next. Then Finish.re-Barrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02880018339701902428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-426391683202886156.post-3348996064019693822010-03-09T14:29:00.000-08:002010-03-09T14:29:31.413-08:00NewsEdit Import CNN footageOur Grass Valley NewsEdit systems have had an issue with the footage that comes from CNN looking really bad. Turns out the import is defaulting mpeg2 files to bottom field first instead of top first. Changing this corrects the issue. Trouble is, this is hard-coded to be the default and will have to be changed by hand every time there is a file that needs to be imported. This was fixed when Grass Valley changed the system to Aurora.

Additional thoughts, maybe this will clean up the files that Grass Valley exports to mpeg2. When I get a moment I will have to try this out.re-Barrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02880018339701902428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-426391683202886156.post-66930647369191265592010-03-09T08:35:00.000-08:002010-03-09T08:35:37.651-08:00Antivirus 2010So I had a user get the malware known as Antivirus 2010. It was not prevented from running by our Trend Micro Officescan but was immediately destroyed after the install. Unfortunately, the user could not open any programs after this. She could however open a file and the program would open up fine. I found this KB from Microsoft to help clean up this sort of thing. But this article was for the system. Our users are not admins and so they could not have changed this key. Evidenced by the fact that other users could use the computer fine. So I did a search in HKEY_CURRENT_USER for .exe and found HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.exe\shell\open\command and the default was set to "c:\somepath\av.exe" "%1" %* So I deleted the line and changed to "%1" %*

Then I did a search on av.exe and found a few more lines that were very similar. Once those were all returned to "%1" %* and the computer was rebooted, the user was back in business.re-Barrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02880018339701902428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-426391683202886156.post-18656832658827240712010-02-16T11:26:00.000-08:002010-02-16T11:26:57.065-08:00Putting Ignite Back Together. So after we took the Firebox out of the equation the other night, we now had to put the new one back in. This one did not come pre-configured. So I had to do all of the configuration with the Grass Valley tech on the phone.

Mostly it was put all of the cables back and set the ip addresses back like they were the other night. But there is special software to configure the Firebox.

I was told to install the software on either a scriptviewer pc or an ignite pc. So I put it on Scriptviewer A (important later). Got all of the configuration done and the ignite system seems to be pulling the data in again. Got off the phone with the tech and had the production folks check it out. No closed captioning.

Reset everything a few times... nothing. Ran around in circles and did a rain dance... nothing. I couldn't think of anything else. Scott looked at the properties for the scriptviewer and noticed that the serial connection was 1200 baud 7 bit NONE parity and 1 stop. That was wrong it should be ODD parity. So he changed it and it worked but when he reset the computer it quit working. Settings had reverted to NONE parity.

Turns out the Firebox config program left a couple of services running on the machine and they were changing the parity on the comm port settings. We had to disable the services and then everything worked like it was supposed to.re-Barrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02880018339701902428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-426391683202886156.post-5601840058866680212010-02-08T22:51:00.000-08:002010-02-08T22:51:00.166-08:00Ignite Quit Receiving MOS UpdatesOur Ignite system quit receiving MOS updates. Scriptviewer had nothing also. We suspected the gateway pc at first.

I went to ENPS and cleared the queue and MOS deactivated all of the rundowns. I then reactivated the MOS on the rundowns and the queue immediately built back up.

Pinging ENPS from the gateway failed as well as pinging the main ignite computer. Must be the Firebox has died.

restarting the Firebox failed. It never came back up.

Added a second NIC to the gateway pc. Changed the original NIC ip address to above 192.168.0.100 and made the addin NIC to be on the same subnet as the ENPS server.

Then in Scriptviewer I went to ScriptList and News Server Setup. I changed the ip address in ENPS MOS to match the 192 ip in the gateway then click on build and ok

Next was to change the ip in ignite. Go to Setup > News Servers. Again ENPS Mos to the 192 ip and build. Then a quick restart and all was back up. scripts were showing up and everything was updating as it should.

Checked the queue in ENPS and it had filtered itself out. But I did not think that would happen until after rundowns were deactivated and reactivated.re-Barrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02880018339701902428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-426391683202886156.post-16111510897639635982010-02-01T09:26:00.000-08:002010-02-01T09:26:54.701-08:00WSI Alert MonitorSo we have just recently had a problem with the video card on our WSI Alert computer. Called WSI and got it replaced. We have a DVI splitter cable to allow the local monitor to see the computer and a Gefen Cat5 9500HD extender to show the monitor to weather. The video was not passing through the splitter after we replaced the video card. So I looked at getting a Kamer VM-2HDCP. The first 2 did not work and the 3rd would not work with our HP monitor in the weather center. So we returned it and got another Tripp Lite splitter. Also the Gefen was not passing video either so we had to replace that too.

Moral of the story... avoid Kramer. Their stuff has failed to work at every chance we have given it. We have tried them on other occasions and it has never worked out for us.re-Barrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02880018339701902428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-426391683202886156.post-73442396755313156192010-01-19T14:59:00.000-08:002010-01-19T15:01:10.427-08:00Fault Light on Neural Loudness ControlWe have a Neural loudness control + Multimerge (does a great job BTW.) that occasionally gets a fault light that lights up. It is still working fine and we can find no evidence of a malfunction. Just the fault light. The issue is how do you reset the fault light?

Go to the home screen by pressing back until you get to a screen that says "Menu" and "About". Then go to About. Look for Reset fault light and there you go. Why is it in the About section?re-Barrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02880018339701902428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-426391683202886156.post-12358484047111047982010-01-19T14:48:00.000-08:002010-01-19T14:48:09.139-08:00New Printer WoesSo we got a new copier/pinter/scanner/fax machine. I have not had to do much printer replacement and this was a real eye opener. First off I had the printer installed using the same name and IP as the old copier. Because this went to all of the staff I was getting reports of problems printing all over the building. ENPS had problems opening ENPS. It was failing to open at the point of loading the printers.

Hindsight being 20/20, I should have installed the printer to another IP address and called it another name. I could have then changed the logon script to reflect the changes.

But how I resolved it, I looked up the print driver and found it in: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3". This was a Kyocera Mita copier and all of the drivers started with KM... and it is the only printer of this brand. So all other printers did not have this prefix on the drivers.

I then rebooted into safe mode and deleted the files. Then on the next logon the printer got remapped and started working.re-Barrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02880018339701902428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-426391683202886156.post-67040722534625720552010-01-13T08:47:00.000-08:002010-01-13T08:47:10.500-08:00VCI ReportMaker Export issueSo we were setting up a new Sales Assistant and the VCI Orion ReportMaker export to Efficio was failing. It was coming up as an export to .htm and we need a .xls file. Changing the file extension in the drop down did not fix the problem. Where on earth are these things coming from. Well so a coworker got his hands on a program that would tell you the strength of wifi networks. So we set off wandering the building to find these things. And we did. Way back in the sales pit, we had signals as big as a house. So the sales people were out at a sales promotion and we started shutting down computers. We found the computers that were creating these things and the mac addresses that were being shown by these things did not match the machines mac address by our network inventory system.

This had me thinking that this was some sort of Trojan that our Trend Micro was not picking up. But a quick google search later and I discovered this site. Which states that it is a bug in Microsoft's Wireless Zero Configuration. Basically they stated that once you connect to an ad hoc network (maybe at an airport or some other public place.) Your computer will try to connect to it the next time you boot up. And if it doesn't find it then it will make your laptop that ad hoc network.

So how do I fix this across a number of computers and not have to log in to each one to disable this ability? Thankfully Microsoft Technet came through for me and told me how to do it in a 2003 AD. None of his USB ports are working right, his dvd and cd drives do not recognize discs (but as a side note they do work for booting a live cd and can play music in WMP.), and his printer is not working. I thought that sounds like a driver issue or rather drivers. So I have tried uninstalling devices and reinstalling them. I have copied files over from my computer and it did not help the issues at hand.

I then thought that I would double check for viruses. He has AVG (not the free one) and the scan came back clean. I then tried the free online Kaspersky scan, Trend Micro scan, and BitDefender scan. All of which came back clean. Glad to see that.

I then took a spare hdd that I had lying around and stuck it in his computer and installed windows on that drive. Everything worked flawlessly. So I know this isn't his hardware that is going bad.

So I got him to give me his windows disk and I was going to do a fresh install. I thought, hmm... maybe a repair install would be better. I have never done one, but after all, then he wouldn't lose all his data. Well I went ahead and backed up the important stuff and started to do this repair install. I looked at a couple websites before I started and they had a couple of warnings and I took note of them. Well, as the repair install was in it's process I found this. Microsoft's instructions on a repair install. And there were a couple of things that it said that other sites did not mention.

1. Uninstall any service packs that were added to the system.

2. Uninstall Internet Explorer.

Seems like a couple of important things that I wish I had seen before I started the process but too late now.

So I get to the gui. and of course you have to relaod drivers that part I expected. But then it gets to some dll's that are not installing (Licwmi.dl_ was the first one). I have tried getting them off the windows disk I tried copying the file on the hard drive to another location. I tried other windows disks. none helped. a quick google search and i ran across this at microsoft's website. It is talking about exactly the files that I am having problems with copying over. I know it is for server 2k3 but hey at this point the drive isn't working anyway. But how do I get this to work, I can't boot to windows? Simple, I take that other hdd that has a fresh install of windows on it and I copy that secedit.sdb file that theis page talks about rebuilding. Bingo! worked like a charm... I was able to finish the install.

Of course then, windows goes into a rebooting loop. It would get up to the login screen and reboot. A couple of times, I got to click on the user and just as it started to load the profile... reboot. So I tried Safe Mode and that worked without a hitch. Okay so this is where I actually tried the advice about rebuilding that secedit.sdb file. but at this point it didn't help my rebooting problem. I used safe mode with networking to download and re-installed SP3. This got it to stop the rebooting loop. But Internet Explorer was not right now. So I used the other browser that he had on his pc (Safari) to download IE8 and re-install it. Note that I am re-installing these, he had already loaded these onto his computer through windows updates.

Now I was finally able to do a normal windows update.

And upon the reboot I started testing all the drives and usb ports and all seems to be working just fine. Data is intact and programs are working just fine. FINALLY.re-Barrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02880018339701902428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-426391683202886156.post-51043714591750671772009-03-13T14:04:00.000-07:002009-03-13T14:41:28.579-07:00New SSL Certificate on Exchange 2003So I have decided to change companies for my ssl. Sure not a problem, after all, it is just a certificate.

Well, with IIS 5 like Server 2003 comes with there is no way to actually go in and create a new CSR for a website. So I searched online to find a way to do this and found a site that had a mention of what to do. I read it and thankfully remembered enough to get it done because I could not remember where I found it. I went through my history and just couldn't find it again. But this is what I did.

I first opened Internet Information Services Manager. Then I expanded the local computer and found the folder called websites. I right clicked on the folder and created a dummy site. I didn't go though setting any settings in it except the name.

I then right clicked on the site and went to properties. Under the tab Directory Security, I clicked on Server Certificate. I created a new CSR, using the wizard, and submitted it to the company to validate my ssl certificate.

Once that was done and they issued me my ssl I went back to where I created the CSR and finished installing the certificate using the wizard. And rebooted.

I then, had to install the root certificate and intermediate certifcates. To do that, I had to go to Start > Run and type in mmc and press Enter. Then I went to File > Add/Remove Snap-In... On the window that opened up I clicked on Add... And on the window that opened up I chose Certificates and clicked Add. Then on a wizard that opened up, I had to choose Computer Account, click next, and Local Computer, click finish. Then I closed that window and I clicked OK. I expanded the certificates and found the Trusted Root Certification Authorites. I right clicked on that and chose All Tasks > Import... The wizard that popped up asked me to browse to the certificate. I then clicked next and left the default Place all certificates in the following store, Trusted Root Certification Authorites. Next. and Finish.

I then repeated the process for the 2 intermediate certificates except I did that under Intermediate Certification Authorities.

I then went back to IIS Manager and found the website that I actually use (for me it is the default website). I then went back into the properties and the Directory Security Tab. I went to Server Certificate... and on the wizard that popped up I chose Replace the current certificate, Next, and found the certificate that I had just purchased. Then I went through the rest of that wizard accepting defaults and once I was done with the wizard I clicked on View Certificate.

Hey look at that there it is!

I then went to the dummy site and deleted it. If you are unsure of yourself after doing that you can go back and look at the certificate just to help yourself sleep better.

After all that I checked my Outlook Web Access and it is working with the new SSL... And my phone still gets email too, so I must be good to go.re-Barrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02880018339701902428noreply@blogger.com0
